Introduction About Anti Narcotics Force
The Anti-Narcotics Force is a Federal Executive agency owned by Government of Pakistan and works under ministry of interiors which is responsible to controlling the narcotics smuggling and illegal use within Pakistan.The ANF also has major task for coordinating and pursuing Pakistan narcotics investigations abroad.. It was established on 21 February 1995 as a principal agency that looks after the illegal distribution of drugs in Pakistani Societies.
Due to a misconception in the Act of ANF, it was considered that only a general of Armed Forces can be the head of this department but later it was cleared that any competent Person can be the DG of ANF. The current Director-General is a two-star Officer of the Pakistan Army named Major General Arif Malik. This organization is also responsible for pursuing and coordinating Pakistan’s narcotics investigations internationally. ANF principally combat the demand and supply reduction of any illicit narcotics drugs in Pakistan that come from the borders of Afghanistan.
ANF works under umbrella of Pakistan Army and Ministry of Narcotics Control (Pakistan) of which Shehryar Khan Afridi is minister since 11 June 2019. Due to misconception on Section 4 of ANF ACT 1997, the force’s head consisted the active-duty general officer of Pakistan Army. Although the law prescribes that any competent person may be appointed as Director General. Currently a two star Army Officer, Major general Arif Malik HI(M) is deputed as Director General.
